Thinking Teastained Woman: Don't Miss Your Understanding
There are several words I want you to keep in mind as you read this post:
predisposed, programmed, distracted, stupor, zoned out, daze, frenzy, and preoccupied.
Got it? Alright then.
The Creator designed our minds like a womb. We receive information necessary for us to have a fruitful lifespan on this planet; thought conceive life. We live out our purpose by dialoguing with this divine information, accessing it through discernment, meditation/a meditative disposition, and understanding. We protect this information and its ease of access by guarding our minds: In stillness and peace we can translate information from a higher frequency, a smaller voice, and from there be able to make every form of decision we need to make for our forward. Our meditations become channels to receive direction; our minds’ state of being impacts our own. This is why we must be vehement about guarding it.
A guarded mind is the product of our respecting our soundness. Its the fruit of prioritizing dimming “noise,” extricating trespassing ideas masquerading as our thoughts from concepts and meditations that deserve fertilization. A guarded mind hosts thoughts that discern what’s entered it and how, is vigilant about stupor-inducing lulls that try to linger until they become resident voices, and assigns volume to matters seeking to have dominant conversations in your thoughts, vying for an opportunity to express through your physical body.
Externally speaking, when we guard our minds we are available to original ideas, discernment, insight and understanding, wisdom, truth, epiphanies, metaphors and poetry, etc. As women who keep written records of our lives, the guarding of our minds is evidenced in the thoroughness of our documentations.
But we live in a world that sets us up. Noise is everywhere, images we don’t ask for get imprinted in our heads, strangers’ voices chatter from every direction without our having a say in hearing from them or not, life events impact our mindsets and we have to decide how to process them, etc. As a result of this incessant bombardment, our minds constantly fluctuate between states of combat and aftermath: 24/7 we fight against traits of circumstances trying to become part of our DNA. We fight the mind’s natural response to turn any bit of information it receives into a fruit bearing tree. We fight not enjoying the rachet, time-wasting, unfruitful, inappropriate “content” that presents itself to us through media.
It’s a never-ending battle! And yet despite the ease of access, we are still expected to come up higher, to become more than the sum of banalities and extremities (seen and unseen) that bombard our mind, soul and spirit.
I’d like to help us add language to describing the mind’s battles we face on a daily:
Atmosphere. The atmospheres we set or place ourselves in predispose us to what gets access to us. Atmosphere dictates what feels comfortable in our minds, where we lend our focus. The quality of the atmospheres in which we find ourselves determines the quality of our soul’s soil, what can get planted in us as a result of what we place ourselves in, around, etc. Caprice with atmosphere means a disconnect from our identity because when you know who you are and what you contain you don’t just go everywhere, allowing anything and anyone ability to access and possibly alter the train of thoughts taking you to destiny.
“Co-thoughts”. By this I mean thoughts that parallel our focus to compromise that to which we’re meant to lend our time and energies. Imagine a hose blasting out water as your thoughts and focus. Now imagine a solid block of red dye being placed at the mouth of the flow as “co-thoughts”, distracting ideas and energies: they take over, staining the quality of what your rumination are meant to create.
They are distracting thoughts that fight for our attention as we try to focus on important things. They range from pretentious memories of stuff dead and gone to sexual fantasies. If you’re vigilant, each time you seek to do something meaningful or powerful/resonant you’ll find these parasitic thoughts chattering in the background to harvest some of the nourishment you’re giving to your goodness. At first it’s annoying, until next thing you know you’ve dropped the important stuff and have immersed yourself in the lesser thoughts’ distractions.Alleviation. Verb—make (suffering, deficiency, or a problem) less severe.
Two times I’ve noticed when my desire to “alleviate” myself comes up: When I go through difficult times and when I’m feeling super inspired. The former case is obvious: when circumstances get rough there’s always a temptation to zone or check out, to create an outlet for yourself that makes the pains a little more bearable palatable: An opiate, a narcotic, an anesthetic. In the latter case, I’ve seen how my unspiritual self treats the heaviness of inspiration as a “threat” to its complacency, offering up social media or a Netflix binge or some other form of fantasizing entity as channels to relieve the mandate of being inspired, to dilute the intensity of that moment.
Within any of these you have a recipe for a battle in the mind. In such battle you are fighting for yourself to not lose time given you to process the latitudes and longitudes of your generations and other subjects of matriarchy, by ruining your atmosphere, engaging with co-thoughts, and alleviating yourself from the heaviness of the Creator’s voice before He can finish conversing with your spirit.
This soulful journey is deep. To be a thinking teastained woman is to put on the scuba gear, go into those depths to get what’s yours and harvest the narratives for the words and their cure. Being a thinking teastained woman is also not being shocked at the battles against snares and spiritual darknesses poised to sabotage our becoming and elevating on time and in season.
This life is a battlefield whose battles often begin in the MIND. It’s part of the journey and we have to get our words and poise together to fight back and win. There is no soulful journey without warfare. PERIOD. Your job is to know what you’re up against and to put it in its place as you go after higher landscapes, armed with wisdom and truth.
We live amongst good and evil— only one of those wishes to see our realization into purpose and on that schedule of divine order. The other side throws everything at us to see us defeated, wars against the truths we know and preoccupies our time and emotions so that we’re entangled with what doesn’t belong to us, missing all the opportunities to connect with the stuff of inheritance. Understanding this will keep us from missing our understanding.
Stay sober-minded. Call out pernicious thought patterns by name and go after them at the root. You will find victory and words for you to document so you can inspire the woman you’ll be.
Journey Soulfully
