Genes, Sis: When did You Stop Getting Angry?
“When did you stop getting angry?”
This journal cover was meant to be a call for us to return to the anger our ancestors left us as an inheritance. The very same anger that entertainment, capitalism, the illusions of freedom and inclusion; the mockery of equality, and yes, the celebration of fake holidays distract us from taking up. We put our anger down because they invited us to their cookout? Because we can drink from the same water fountain? Because we can be in their movies and win their awards? What made us stop operating in indignance in honour of our ancestors? When did we buy the lie that anger was hindrance? When did your ancestors give you permission to lay down the torch they passed you? That forgotten flame will burn the house they were building for you.
Honor them every day by learning why they were angry and taking that anger as your mandate. Document your anger of learning what was done to your people; transcribe that anger as a strategy.
